Martin B-26 Marauder: The Wingless Wonder was the name of a variant of Avalon Hill's B-17: Queen of the Skies solitaire boardgame. A draft of B-26 was available for play testing which used the B-17: Queen of the Skies rules and B-17 was needed to play. Everything has changed since then, and B-26: The Marauder Strikes! has completly new mechanics and is a stand alone game. It is a solitaire game set on board a Martin B-26 Marauder medium bomber during World War Two in the European Theater of Opearations from July 1943 until the end of the war in May 1945.

B-26: The Marauder Strikes! is a big game in that there are many target lists, rules, mission maps and details which are not found in B-17: Queen of the Skies or B-29 Superfortress: Bombers over Japan. For example, the Damage Tables are more detailed than the earlier games and the combat system is similar, but completely new. The Target Lists include a large selection of targets attacked by B-26s from July 1943 until the end of the war in May 1945 and are placed on 13 maps (movement boards) which are different depending on where your base is located, from England to the Netherlands. Different models of the B-26 is also included from the early B-26 in 1941 until the B-26G which entered combat in October 1944. The earlier models are not used in the European Theater of Operations (the ETO) in which B-26: The Marauder Strikes! is set, but will be used in 22nd Bomb Group: Marauders from Australia, an add-on variant set in the Pacific in the war against Japan in New Guinea.

The rules in this Flight Manual try to reflect the twin engined B-26 Marauder and situations and events which the crews saw on their missions and historical accuracy has been an important guideline during the development of this game.

Players familiar with B-17: Queen of the Skies or B-29 Superfortress: Bombers over Japan recognize the mechanics used in B-26. One or more 6-sided dice are rolled on tables to plan the mission, to determine if enemy fighters appear, to hit with machine gun fire and to determine damage and wounds and much more. B-26 is as easy to play as B-17 with its basic system which is similar to the mechanics in B-17: Queen of the Skies. Players who have flown missions in B-17 may find that B-26 is similar, but more detailed and there are ideas included in B-26 which can be found in the B-17: Queen of the Skies community. If you add the advanced and optional guidelines you will find B-26 to become deep, detailed and complex, but still does not stray far from the simple mechanics of the basic system. You will also find yourself in situations where you have to make a decision.

The Core Game Flight Manual will be used to play the A-20 Havoc, A-26 Invader and B-25 Mitchell add-ons.

You can begin your campaign flying missions from bases in England or jump in later in the war when the B-26 groups had moved to the continent and you will find Mission Maps with your station either in England, France, Belgium or the Netherlands depending on when you fly your missions. Put together a crew, name your B-26 and fly missions over France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxemburg, Germany, Austria and Chechoslovakia!

Low-Level Missions & Fuel Consumption

I can really recommend that you keep an eye on your fuel gauge. I had ½ box left after landing. I now cross off boxes after I have landed, not before as I have done on many missions before.

The lower turret was installed and I had wing tanks instead of the aft bomb bay. (I have no photographic of A-26 with wing tanks during WWII.)

My station is Maupertus and the target was Metz, in Zone 7. There are several emergency airfields to land at in France where you can refuel, but don't let that be a guarantee, because if you are off course or lost, you may not be able to reach any base at all.

I went out with one flight/6 ships. All returned. The result was 65% fair, small target, Fortifications. Flak was +3, but vs the A-26 the intensity was mostly moderate, weak or none and the accuracy fair or inaccurate.

Is the A-26 invincible? You may be shot down if you're hit, one hit can bring you down, but is the A-26 almost invincible?

These are the modifications I used vs flak
A-26: -1 (because it is the A-26 and faster and more agile than the B-26 and A-20.)
Water Injection: -1
Evasive Action: -1

I did not use these today (Intensity):
Out of Formation: -2 (because there are many A-26 over the target and the gunners have sevral to choose from and this mod is not applied if you have 6 or fewer ships.)
A-26 Slowed: NE with Water Injection

For Accuracy:
A-26: -1 (somewhat smaller and faster)
with Water Injection: -1
Evasive Action: -1

I was not hit on this mission.

I just remembered. I fly an A-26A. I don't have water injection! and I've used that on my missions up until now.

Have I been shot down by friendly fire? Zone 2 returning back to base after a low-level mission. I am over allied territory. I roll Ground Fire on Mission Events, small arms,inaccurate, medium column, 2 hits. Superficial in the nose, #1 hit, out, windmilling prop. I manage to recover the dive and the engine does not start on my first attempt. With gun pods that I cannot jettison, it's now DRAG. With one engine out and drag I must land at the end of the up-coming turn. This is not good! I have already used a lucky charm to negate damage which would cause drag over the target. I have two to use now, but to go back and negate the engine hit does not sound right. Pause here and go over the table and add that Ground Fire will not occur over friendly territory? Time stands still until I have figured out what what makes most sense.

What I have not added in the low-level add-on yet, but have considered to do, and copy the rule from an earlier version, is that on the return route I can climb to be out of reach of this kind of fire...

What if you have landed and you cross off boxes and find that you must cross of more than you have available? You have to go back an re-roll the landing with one or more engines out. Fuel has run out early. I landed and found that I had only ½ a box left. If I would have had to cross of more than ½ I would have had to land with dead engines.
